A Bit about The Original Nine DeMolays (As posted in the DeMolay International Website Forum by Dad Dale Dietzman)
Extracted from a speech by Grand Orator and PGM Reese Harrison, March 18, 1994:
Ivan M. Bentley lived in Louis Lower's neighborhood. Crowned a Chevalier in 1920. Died in an accident in 1921. His death made him the first Ruby in the emblem.
Louis G. Lower 1st Obligated DeMolay; PMC of Mother Chapter. Crowned a Chevalier in 1920. 1st Active LOH Legionnaire on May 28, 1926; Killed July 18, 1943. The Second Ruby. Edmund Marshall
lived next door to Elmer Dorsey. Crowned a Chevalier 1920. Graduated from University of Missouri. President of the Kansas City Board of Trade. Died November 8, 1966. The Fourth Ruby. (Dad Frank Land was the third Ruby).
Clyde C. Stream
a cousin of Gorman McBride. Was a technical Engineer with the Sagano Electric Company. Retired to Bradenton, Florida. Died May 3, 1971. The Fifth Ruby.
Gorman A. McBride
lived in the neighborhood with Louis Lower. 2nd Obligated DeMolay. 1st Master Councilor of Mother Chapter. Crowned a Chevalier 1920. Became an Active Member of the International Supreme Council. A Lawyer by profession. Recieved the Founder's Cross from Dad Land, the only one of the original nine to do so. Was Director of Activities at ISC Headqarters in the 1960s. Died November 10, 1973. The Sixh Ruby.
Ralph Sewell
lived in the home of Louis Lower. Became the Credit Manager for H. D. Lee Mercantile Company, makers of Lee jeans. Skilled Pianist and Organist. Died July, 1976. The Seventh Ruby.
Elmer V. Dorsey
lived just behind Louis Lower. PMC of Mother Chapter. Successful Businessman. Moved to Texas and became an Advisor to Richardson Chapter. Died November 1979. The eighth Ruby.
William W. Steinhilber
lived in the neighborhood with Lousi Lower. Became a successful stock and bond broker. Captain of the first DeMolay baseball Team. Died October 28, 1992. The Ninth Ruby.
Jerome Jacobson
lived one block from Louis Lower. Graduated from University of Kansas, admitted to the Missouri Bar as a lawyer. Outstanding career in law and finance. Lived in Kansas City all his life. Bro. Jacobson died in May, 2002. The tenth and final Ruby. |
